Tandav Row: Allahabad High Court Rejects Amazon Prime's Aparna Purohit's Anticipatory Bail
Tandav starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Gauahar Khan and others and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar got mired in a controversy as soon as it got released. The show received massive backlash on social media and many FIRs got registered against the makers. Even after Ali Abbas Zafar and the team of Tandav extended an apology, a case is being run against the Commercial Head of Amazon Prime, Aparna Purohit. Latest update in the case is that the Allahabad High Court has rejected Aparna's anticipatory bail.

As reported by the Live Law, the court mentioned that the Western filmmakers do not ridicule Jesus or Prophets in films but Indian filmmakers make references to Hindu Gods. "Western filmmakers have refrained from ridiculing Lord #Jesus or the #Prophet but the Hindi filmmakers have done this repeatedly and still doing this most unabashedly with the #HinduGods and Goddesses: Allahabad High Court #Tandav," read a tweet made by Live Law.

The court also reportedly mentionedabout Munawar Faruqui case and said, "Things are worsening as is evident from the fact that an obscure stand-up comedian, #MunawarFaruqui, from Gujarat made comments on Hindu God and Godesses in a new year show at Indore and gained undue publicity on being arrested in a case. #Tandav."

Aparna Purohit has charges under Sections 66 (Computer-related offences), 66F (Punishment for cyber terrorism) and 67 (Transmitting obscene material) IT Act, 2008 (as amended) apart from Sections 153-A (Promoting enmity between different groups), 295 (Defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion), 505(1)(b) (Public mischief), 505(2) (Statements promoting hatred between classes), 469 (Forgery for purpose of harming reputation) of IPC, as reported.
